The Sunsphere Tower
|
A 246 Bell Maas-Rowe Carillon was installed here in 1974. The bells can be played from the church's Pipe Organ Console. The organ is one of the largest in North America and features Pipes crafted in Italy. The Maas-Rowe carillon uses "miniature bells" rather than tons of metal to produce an authentic live sound that is amplified millions of times before being projected from large tower speakers. By striking metal to generate the tone, Maas-Rowe produces an authentic sound acclaimed by musical experts. Carillon music can be played live from a Maas-Rowe Carillon Console as well as automatically at scheduled times. Westminster C
himes ring on the hours. They can be scheduled for Quarter Hours
as well with a different schedule possible for each day of the
week. In 2003 the tower was open again and the carillon restored to operation. The original Maas-Rowe miniature bells are still in place and are now played by a Maas-Rowe current model Memory/Player Recorder which can store hundreds of songs for automatic playback. |
